Inaugural Event of the DERECHO Project

The DERECHO project – Defense of European Rights and Excellence for Consumers HarmonizatiOn, funded by the European Union within the framework of the Jean Monnet Actions, held its inaugural event on September 23, 2025, at the Faculty of Law of the CEU San Pablo University.

During the session, addressed to 3rd-year Law students, the project’s objectives and axes were presented: promoting teaching excellence, fostering advanced research in European Union Law, and encouraging active student participation in European regulatory debates, such as the public consultation on the future Digital Fairness Directive (Digital Fairness Act).

The event featured the participation of distinguished professors from CEU San Pablo, including the Dean of the Faculty and Chair of Commercial Law, Alfonso Martínez-Echevarría; the Director of the Law Degree and the Excellence Programme, Mª Begoña Fernández González ; the project’s lawyers and professors, Rosa Medina Sánchez and María Gil Drake; and the professor and Principal Investigator of the project, Alberto Hidalgo Cerezo. Furthermore, the inauguration featured a keynote lecture by the international guest professor Theodoros G. Iliopoulos, from Hasselt University, who addressed the role of the Green Transition and renewable energies in European Union policies.

The meeting marked the beginning of an academic program that combines training of excellence, research, and European dialogue, aligned with the foundational values of the Jean Monnet Actions.
